Dining Chair

Before stripping

IMG_1683.jpg

The photos show a traditional antique dining chair at various stages during the re-upholstery process.

The chair is first stripped back and necessary repairs are made to the frame before beginning to build the upholstery back up using webbing, hessian, curled hair and linen scrim. The upholstery is stitched to form the shape and definition of the chair seat, followed by a second stuffing of hair, a layer of cotton felt and calico. Finally the seat is covered with the top fabric and braid.
